Weight Management Clinic

Clinically Led Weight Loss

Wegovy from £130 and Mounjaro from £170 — prescribed and monitored by an Independent Prescriber at Pollokshields Pharmacy in Glasgow's Southside. Safe, evidence-based weight loss with ongoing clinical support.

A clinically led service

Weight loss with proper medical care

Carrying excess weight affects far more than how clothes fit. It increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, joint problems and several cancers. For many people, willpower and a gym membership are not enough — biology gets in the way.

At Pollokshields Pharmacy we run a private weight management clinic led by our Independent Prescriber, Mohammed Adill Sheikh (MRPharmS, GPhC 2060588). We prescribe two of the most effective weight loss medications licensed in the UK — Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) — alongside lifestyle guidance and regular review.

This is not a quick fix or a tablet bought online without a consultation. Every patient is assessed in person, treated in line with clinical guidelines, and supported throughout their journey.

How it works

GLP-1 medication, explained simply

Both Wegovy and Mounjaro belong to a class of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They mimic hormones that your gut releases naturally after eating. The result: your appetite drops, you feel fuller for longer, and your body uses food more efficiently.

Wegovy (semaglutide) targets one hormone receptor (GLP-1). In clinical trials, patients lost an average of around 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks when combined with diet and exercise.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a dual-action medicine — it works on two hormone receptors (GLP-1 and GIP). In trials it produced average weight loss of around 20% at the highest dose. For many patients it is the more powerful option, though both medicines are highly effective.

Both treatments are taken as a once-weekly self-injection using a pre-filled pen. We will show you exactly how to use it during your consultation.

Eligibility

Is this service right for you?

In line with NICE and MHRA guidance, you may be eligible for treatment if:

  • Your BMI is 30 or above (classed as obese)
  • Your BMI is 27 or above and you have a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or sleep apnoea
  • You are 18 or over
  • You have tried diet and lifestyle changes without sustained results

These medicines are not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning pregnancy, have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, have had pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease or certain endocrine disorders.

We will go through your full medical history during your consultation. If you are not suitable, we will tell you straight — and where possible, signpost you to other support.

Treatment 1

Wegovy (semaglutide) — from £130

Wegovy is a weekly injectable GLP-1 medicine licensed for chronic weight management. Treatment starts at a low dose and is increased gradually to reduce side effects and help your body adjust. Pricing covers the medication and your clinical consultation.

Prices include the medication and your clinical consultation. Doses are increased over time under our supervision — most patients reach a maintenance dose within 16 to 20 weeks.

Treatment 2

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) — from £170

Mounjaro is a dual-action GLP-1/GIP injectable, also taken once weekly. It produced the largest average weight loss of any licensed weight management medicine in clinical trials. Like Wegovy, dosing is titrated upwards gradually.

Wegovy or Mounjaro — which is right for me?

That decision is made together with your prescriber after assessing your medical history, weight, goals, tolerability and budget. As a rough guide:

  • Wegovy is often a sensible starting point, particularly if affordability is a factor or if you respond well to single-action GLP-1 medicines.
  • Mounjaro tends to produce more weight loss at higher doses and may be preferred if you have a higher BMI, type 2 diabetes, or have previously plateaued on semaglutide.

Both are licensed by the MHRA, supplied through trusted UK wholesalers, and dispensed from our Maxwell Road pharmacy.

The process

From first consultation to ongoing care

Step 1

Consultation & Assessment

A confidential one-to-one with our Independent Prescriber. We check your weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, medical history and current medications, and discuss your goals.

Step 2

Prescription & Training

If treatment is suitable, we prescribe and dispense your medication on the spot. We show you how to inject safely, store the pen and recognise side effects.

Step 3

Ongoing Review

Regular check-ins to track progress, adjust your dose, manage side effects and keep you on track. We are here to support you, not just hand over a prescription.

Safety

Side effects and safety

Wegovy and Mounjaro are well-tolerated by most patients, but like all medicines they can cause side effects. The most common are gastrointestinal — particularly when starting or increasing your dose:

  • Nausea, occasional vomiting, indigestion or reflux
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Reduced appetite (this is part of how the medicine works)
  • Tiredness or headaches in the first few weeks
  • Mild injection-site reactions

Most side effects ease as your body adjusts. Slow titration, eating smaller portions, avoiding fatty or very rich meals, and staying hydrated all help.

Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and severe allergic reactions. We will brief you fully on red-flag symptoms during your consultation. If you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting or signs of an allergic reaction, contact NHS 24 on 111 or attend A&E.

Lifestyle & Nutrition Guidance

Medication does the heavy lifting on appetite, but long-term results come from the habits you build alongside it. We will work with you on:

  • Calorie awareness and sensible portion control
  • Higher protein intake to preserve muscle while losing fat
  • Practical, sustainable food swaps — not crash diets
  • Realistic activity goals that fit your day
  • Hydration, sleep and stress — all of which affect weight

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How quickly will I lose weight?

Most patients start to see changes within the first 4 to 8 weeks, with the more substantial weight loss building up over 6 to 12 months. Results vary based on your starting weight, dose, lifestyle and which medicine you are on.

Do I have to inject myself?

Yes — both medicines are once-weekly self-injections using a pre-filled pen. The needle is very fine and most patients describe it as painless. We will train you fully and you can call us any time if you need a refresher.

What happens if I stop the medicine?

Weight management is a long-term commitment. Without lifestyle changes, weight regain is common after stopping. We will help you build sustainable habits during treatment and discuss a sensible exit plan if and when you choose to stop.

Can I get Wegovy or Mounjaro on the NHS?

NHS access in Scotland is limited and routed through specialist weight management services with long waiting lists and strict criteria. Our private service offers a quicker, locally accessible route with the same medicines and full clinical oversight.

Is the consultation included in the price?

Yes. The monthly price covers your medication and your clinical consultation. There are no hidden subscription fees.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No GP referral is required. With your permission we may write to your GP to keep them informed — this is good practice and helps coordinate your overall care.
